Cathedral Prep Weekend Athletics Roundup:
• Congratulations to Boys Tennis! They captured the District 10 AA title! The Ramblers began the AA tournament with a 5-0 victory over Warren in the semifinals. Jonah Ng, Gavin Ferretti, and Colin Troutman picked up straight-set victories in singles. The teams of James Casella/Cameron Grieshaber and Ty Hulick/Drew Brown took doubles. The same team would lead them to a straight-set championship victory over Fairview, 5-0. Congratulations to Coach Grab and the Ramblers! 🎾🏆
• Boys lacrosse picked up a 6-5 Region victory over Hickory. Charlie McBrier had a pair of goals. Brady Powers, Rylan Sorge, Andrew Timon, and Nate Klan also scored. Ian Brown made 14 saves in goal. 🥍
• Girls track & field competed at the prestigious Loucks Game in White Plains, NY. In the 800m, Lauren Raimy took 19th place with a PR of 2:16.52. Fina Bannister set a PR of 2:18.30. Reagan Johnston with a PR of 2:21.39 while Sarah Teed ran in 2:27.28. In the 3200m, Anne-Catherine Brown placed eighth overall with a PR time of 10:48.16, while Allison Bender ran in 11:18.15. The 4x800m relay took eighth. 👟
• Baseball fell to St. Francis (NY), 7-5, in a varsity-only contest. Jason Fultz had two hits, two RBI, and a homerun. Andrew Costello had a pair of hits and drove in three. ⚾
• Girls lacrosse dropped their game to Seton LaSalle, 13-3. 🥍

Cathedral Prep alumnus Evan Fritzke ’16 visited Mrs. Quinn’s AP Statistics class to discuss how he uses statistics as a viticulturist for National Grape Co-op (Welch’s). Evan has a major in biology, minors in english and chemistry, and a masters in horticulture. He explained to the students that while he does not have a statistics degree, he uses it in his job, and it also helped get him his job at Welch’s. Statistics is used to do crop forecasting and is also instrumental in the grape inspection process. #Prep #Statistics
AFJROTC cadets presented the colors at the Cleveland Guardians game on Wednesday. This was a great opportunity for our cadets, and it was a beautiful day for baseball! #Prep #AFJROTC ⚾

• Softball dropped their Region matchup against McDowell, 13-2. 🥎
• Girls lacrosse fell to Conneaut, 11-6. Sarah Snell had a hat trick. Niagara Millen scored a pair, while Kamryn Resurreccion also scored. Allison Deiner made 10 saves. 🥍
• Boys volleyball fell to Saegertown, 3-0. 🏐

• Congratulations to Gavin Ferretti and James Casella. They captured the D-10 AA Doubles title with a 6-1, 6-4 victory over teammates Colin Troutman and Cameron Grieshaber at Westwood Racquet Club. They are now Hershey bound! Congratulations Gavin and James! 🎾🏆
• Baseball swept Warren. Varsity earned a 7-3 Region victory over the Dragons to complete the season sweep. Dan Oblich went 2-3 and scored twice. He also struck out seven in four innings of relief. Andrew Costello scored two runs, while Davin Friedman drove in a run. JVs picked up an 8-0 win in five innings. Matthew Boam pitched a perfect game, striking out four in five innings. Matthew Oblich went 2-3 with an RBI. Owen Fetzner and Jackson Herr each drove in a run. ⚾
Our visits to the Barber National Institute have wrapped up for the school year. A group of juniors and seniors have been going on monthly visits to two separate classrooms at the center. Throughout our time, we played games, did crafts, played music, and had a great time getting to know some of the students there. We're looking forward to continued visits next school year! #Prep #Community
Congratulations to Tori Spearman ’24. She is a National Champion! She claimed gold in the bars and beam events at the Level 9 Eastern Championships in Myrtle Beach, SC. • Baseball swept McDowell. Yet again, it was the Jason Fultz show. He went 6 2/3 innings, yielding just two hits, while striking out 15 in a 5-1 varsity win over the Trojans. Fultz also hit a home run. Jacob Koshan went 2-4 with a pair of RBI. Justice Laird had two hits, while Andrew Costello scored two runs. JVs snared a 10-9 victory. Matt Oblich was 2-3 with three stolen bases. Owen Fetzner drove in three, while AJ Sirianni had a pair of RBI. Jackson Herr was 1-2 with three runs scored, an RBI, and three stolen bases. ⚾
• Softball picked up a big 15-1 Region win at Meadville. Emily Dudenhoeffer was 3-4 with five RBI and a home run. Mackenzie Moore was 3-4 with a homer and two RBI, while Emalie Thomas also went deep. Madison Simmerman drove in a pair and struck out eight in the circle. 🥎
• Girls lacrosse scored a huge Region win over Fairview, 14-10. Niagara Millen had five goals to lead the way. Sarah Snell, Genevieve Izbicki, and Gigi Hiner all had hat tricks. Allison Deiner made nine saves. 🥍
• Track & field competed against McDowell. The girls narrowly fell to the Trojans, 78-72. De’Ziriana Page won the 200m. Reagan Johnston won the 400m. Fina Bannister took the 800m. Anne-Catherine Brown won the 1600m. Lauren Raimy took the 3200m. Regina Torrance won the 300m hurdles. The 4x400m relay of Bannister, R. Johnston, Brown, and Torrance took first. The 4x800m relay also took first. Kendal Johnston won the high jump, setting a school record with her jump of 5’1”. Grace Barrett also joined teammate Sarah Lathan in the school record ranks with her pole vault of 8’6”. The boys also lost to McDowell, 88-62. Hank Partridge won the 300m hurdles. He also won the pole vault. Michael McDonald won the high jump, while Ashton Mountain took the triple jump. Camden Miller won the javelin. 👟
• Boys volleyball fell to Maplewood, 3-0. Jonah Bebko had five kills. Alvin Beason had two aces. Rob Brown finished with three kills, three aces, and a block. 🏐

Last Friday, students in the National Art Honor Society (NAHS) took a trip to Cleveland to visit the Cleveland Museum of Art. Club members were accompanied by advisors Mrs. Duda and Mr. Vicary. Students were able to see and interact with a wide variety of art and antiquities. They also walked around the Case Western Reserve University campus to see the “Judy’s Hand Pavilion” sculpture and enjoyed some lunch in Cleveland’s University Circle neighborhood. #Prep #NAHS 🎨

• Congratulations to Jonah Ng. He captured the District 10 AA Singles title with a straight set victory over teammate Gavin Ferretti, 6-1, 6-0. With his victory, he is now headed to Hershey for the state tournament. This is his second District 10 singles title in three years. Congratulations, Jonah! 🎾🏆
• Softball swept Moniteau. Varsity picked up an 8-3 win over the Warriors. Emalie Thomas and Mackenzie Moore each hit home runs, while Madison Simmerman drove in three runs on three hits. JVs won 11-0 behind a combined no-hitter from Sophia Primavere and Mackenzie Moore. Moore also had three RBI. Eva Donikowski had a pair of hits and drove in four. Morgan Madura had a pair of hits. 🥎
MedPath sophomores had the opportunity to visit St. Vincent’s hospital last week. They heard from Prep and Villa alumni working in the field at AHN about different career paths in medicine, the importance of each job, and got to hold and manipulate the various tools used for each. They got a personalized guided tour of the ED, operating suites, and the NICU. Thank you to Dr. Caitlin Clark and the rest of St. Vincent’s staff for a wonderful, educational visit! #Prep #MedPath ⚕
Congratulations to Megan Cardella ’25. She was honored by the Zonta Club of Erie as one of the recipients of the Amelia Earhart Award for outstanding leadership and scholarship. The awards were presented at their 35th annual award dinner last week. Congratulations, Megan! #Prep #Leadership
Forty-five students were inducted into the school’s chapter of the National Honor Society in a ceremony on Thursday, May 1, in the H. David Bowes Auditorium. The National Honor Society is a national organization which recognizes outstanding scholarship, leadership, character, and service. Candles were lit to signify these four values, as well as the initiation of the new members. Inductees received a pin and certificate to honor their new membership. Current members of NHS were present to induct the new members and show what it means to be a member of the National Honors Society. Congratulations to all the inductees! #Prep #NHS

• The District 10 AA singles tournament took place at Westwood Racquet Club. Colin Troutman picked up a first-round win. James Casella dropped his first-round match, while Jonah Ng and Gavin Ferretti received byes. Ng, Ferretti, and Troutman all picked up victories in the second round and the quarterfinals. Ng would pick up a straight-set win over Troutman, 6-0,6-0, while Ferretti defeated Hickory’s Jacob Jarzab, 6-1, 6-0. It will be Ng versus Ferretti in the AA championship TODAY at Westwood Racquet Club at 3:00 p.m. 🎾
• Track & Field competed at the Baldwin Invitational. Anne-Catherine Brown finished fourth in the mile, while Lauren Raimy finished seventh. Fina Bannister finished eighth in the 800m. 👟
• Baseball dropped their doubleheader to St. Ignatius (OH). Varsity fell to the Wildcats, 7-2. Andrew Costello hit a two-run home run. JVs dropped their matchup, 10-0. ⚾
Senior cadets had a lesson on Meals Ready to Eat (MREs) yesterday. They learned about military food rations from Revolutionary War time to present day and had the opportunity to taste some. #Prep #AFJROTC

• Softball played in their throwback Villa softball uniforms and defeated Warren, 11-1, in a varsity-only matchup. Emily Dudenhoeffer went 2-3 with four RBI. Madison Simmerman had three hits and drove in three runs. Emalie Thomas had two hits and two RBI, while Addison Baldi had three hits and scored three times. 🥎
• JV baseball picked up a 13-1 win over St. Francis (NY). Davin Friedman got the win with three shutout innings, striking out five. He also homered, went 2-3, and drove in four runs. Owen Fetzner was 2-3 with two RBI. ⚾
• Boys volleyball fell to Farrell, 3-0. Rob Brown led the team with six kills. 🏐
Prep AFJROTC joined Air Force and Army cadets from all of Erie County JROTC last weekend at the annual Military Ball. In addition to dancing and other activities, seniors were recognized for their JROTC accomplishments and leadership over the years. #Prep #AFJROTC
