Cathedral Prep Athletics Roundup for Wednesday, February 8:
• Boys basketball swept Erie High in a JV-freshmen doubleheader at the Joann Mullen Gymnasium. JV picked up a 55-40 win over the Royals, while the freshmen won 50-42. 🏀
• Bowling fell to McDowell, 21-7, to finish the regular season tied for first. Both teams will bowl again next week with a trip to the Western Regional on the line. Congrats to Elena Kacprowicz and Emalie Thomas, who finished second and fourth overall, for qualifying for individual regionals. 🎳
Cathedral Prep Athletics Roundup for Tuesday, February 7:
• Boys basketball completed the season sweep of General McLane. Varsity remained unblemished in Region play with their 68-41 win over the Lancers. Amaree Pickens led all scorers with 18 points. Semontae Lofton and Jake Sambuchino each had 14, while Mohammed Rahama had 10. JVs picked up a 45-24 win behind 13 points from Michael Thompson and 12 from Charlie Williams. 🏀
• Varsity hockey fell to Peters Township, 7-0. 🏒
AFJROTC held a ceremony for their change in command this morning. The full corps gathered in the Cathedral Prep gymnasium to witness the changing of the guard. Cadet Lieutenant Colonel Aliyah Castner ‘24 assumed command of the squadron from Cadet Lieutenant Colonel Brendan Lynch ‘23. Cadet Lieutenant Colonel Aliyah Castner ‘24 is now corps commander, PA-931. Also, Cadet Major Caleb Dacus ’24 is now deputy corps commander, PA-931 while Cadet Major Kasey Kensil ‘23 is now past deputy commander, PA-931. Congratulations to our cadets! #Prep #AFJROTC
The Cathedral Prep Office of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion and the school’s Spanish Club recently held a dress down fundraiser to benefit the Multicultural Community Resource Center (MCRC) of Erie PA. The MCRC provides a variety of educational and social services, child development, housing, and employment programs to the Latino, refugee, immigrant, and new American populations in Erie. • Girls basketball completed their season sweep of McDowell. Varsity improved to 15-1 on the season after their 47-33 win over the Trojans. Jayden McBride led all scorers with 18 points. Addie Biel had 10. JV remained undefeated with their 41-26 victory. Natalie Spano and Katherine McCormick each had 14. 🏀

National Honors Society held their second Community Blood Bank Blood Drive in mid-January! 45 donors were screened, and 38 units were collected. Cathedral Prep Weekend Athletics Roundup:
• Boys basketball completed the season sweep of Fort LeBoeuf. On Senior Night, Varsity bested the Bison, 80-31. Zion Barksdale had 16 points. Jake Sambuchino added 13, while Amaree Pickens had 10. Semontae Lofton finished with nine. Tavion Spencer, Mohammed Rahama and Max Wallace all had eight points each. The JVs won, 61-25. Michael McDonald had 14, Cormac Thunell added 12. They also picked up a 65-38 win over Canisius on Saturday. Freshmen basketball fell to Canisius, 32-31. 🏀
• Varsity hockey picked up a 3-2 win over Medina (OH) on Senior Night. 🏒
• Indoor track competed in the Spire Scholastic Showcase on Sunday. In the girl's 4x800 relay, Prep ran a time of 9:37.47 to finish second. This time by Lauren Raimy, Anne-Catherine Brown, Sarah Clark and Fina Bannister is currently the second-fastest run by a HS team in PA this season. In the girl's 3200, Sarah Clark placed 10th. She also set a new school record of 10:57.33. In the 800m, Lauren Raimy placed 16th, while Fina Bannister took 19th. Their times are in the top-25 for 800m runners in PA this season. In the 1600m, Anne-Catherine Brown finished 24th. In the boy's 60m, Damario Crawford finished in 18th place. Crawford was also 15th in the 200m. In the 1600m, a race that produced the top two times in the US this season, Luke Brown finished in 11th. 👟

• Congratulations to the Wrestling team! They captured the District 10 AAA championship over McDowell, 37-29. They began the night with a 32-30 win over Hickory in the semifinal. Sam Staab (133), Jaden Crockett (160), Clay Mallory (172) and Max Spaulding (285) all had pins, while Bo Martucci (152) and Isaiah Harrick picked up major decisions. In the championship match, Andrew Gammon (133), Aiden Carter (107), Keagan Oler (121) and Mallory (189) all had falls. Owen Shetler (172) picked up a major decision, while Staab (139) scored a decision. Congratulations to Coach Hahesy and the team! They are headed to Hershey! 🤼♂️🏆
• Indoor Track competed in their third NEOITC Green Division Meet at Spire Institute. Fina Bannister took second in the 400m. Lauren Raimy took first in the 800m, while Anne-Catherine Brown took second. The 4x400m team of Kayla Bogdanski, Caitlin Dugan, Raimy and Bannister took second. The 4x800m team of Sarah Clark, Brown, Allison Bender and Raimy took first. DaMario Crawford took first in the 60m and 200m dash. 👟
• Girls swimming & diving rolled to a 126-23 victory over Mercyhurst Prep. Brianne Ryan took three events. Double winners included Lindsay Armanini, Josie Dufala, Ellie Brugger, Jillian Heinrich and Maria Costa. Angeline Terrizzi took the diving competition. 🏊♀️
• Boys swimming & diving also picked up a big win over Merychurst Prep, 109-32. Matt Hinman won three events. Owen Carson, Callum Snider-Mills, Mitchell Bradford, Clark Brown and Brady Palmer all took a pair of events. Ted Terrizzi won the diving portion. 🏊♂️

• Girls basketball swept their doubleheader at the Joann Mullen Gymnasium. Varsity handed Punxsutawney their first loss of the season, 52-31. Addie Biel led the way with 19 points. Jayden McBride had 16, while Lena Walz added 11. JVs closed the night with a 42-28 win over Mercyhurst Prep. Natalie Spano led the way with 20. 🏀
• Bowling rolled a league season-high 2511 to extend their win streak to five with a 25-3 victory over Mercyhurst. Captain Elena Kacprowicz rolled the high game of 215 and had the high series with a 566. All six starters earned two or more points for the Ramblers. McDowell is up next with a trip to Regionals on the line. 🎳

Congratulations to John Koshan ‘23. He has committed to play college football next season for Indiana University of Pennsylvania on scholarship. • Girls basketball swept Fairview. Varsity defeated the Tigers, 61-31, to get another victory in Region play. The Ramblers led 40-12 at the intermission and were paced by 21 points from Lena Walz. Jayden McBride had 18. With the victory, head coach Doug Chuzie set the school mark for career wins in girls basketball with 267 games won at Villa Maria Academy/Cathedral Prep. Congratulations, Coach Chuzie, on this great achievement! JVs picked up a 51-27 victory. Leah Major had 14 points. Katherine McCormick added 12, while Natalie Spano had 11. 🏀
• Boys swimming handled Warren, 114-48. Triple winners were Jack Raimy and Owen Carson. Aidan Levis, Callum Snider-Mills and Colin Troutman all won twice. Ted Terrizzi won the diving competition. 🏊♂️
• Girls swimming also picked up a victory over Warren, 95-90. Maria Costa won three events. Double winners were Chloe Borrero and Ellie Brugger. 🏊♀️
• JV boys basketball defeated Mercyhurst Prep, 49-38. Max Wallace scored 17 points to lead the Ramblers, while Ben Scheffner added 10. 🏀
