Members of Outreach Club filled “Blessing Bags” today for homeless members in the Erie community. 50 bags were filled with items such as water, snacks, and hand warmers and will be donated to Our Neighbors Place with the traveling homeless shelter.

Cathedral Prep Weekend Athletics Roundup: • Girls basketball split their doubleheader against Solon (OH). Varsity picked up a 60-42 victory over the state-ranked Comets. The Ramblers were able to put away the game with patient offense and stellar defense. Jayden McBride led a balanced scoring attack with 16 points, while Addie Biel and Lena Walz each added 14. Natalie Spano finished with nine points. McKenna Valone had seven points. JVs lost an intense back and forth game, 41-40. Mady Brzezinski had 18 points to lead the way. 🏀 • Boys basketball went 0-3 over the weekend. Varsity fell in overtime to Meadville, 79-72. Nando Mirarchi led the Ramblers with 20 points. Michael Thompson had 14. JVs dropped their game to the Bulldogs, 62-58, while freshmen fell to McDowell, 60-26. 🏀 • Wrestling was eliminated from the PIAA team tournament after their 43-14 loss to Connellsville. Brandon Byrd (152) and Max Spaulding (215) had falls, while Keagan Oler (127) scored a decision. 🤼‍♂️

Students in our GlobalPath and TechPath programs visited Gannon University yesterday. They were met at the Forensic Investigation Center (FIC) by Elizabeth Tirak ’18VMA. They opportunity to talk about applied intelligence, criminal justice, and forensic science majors with Gannon faculty members Dr. Benjamin Baughman, Dr. Jerry Clark ’78, and Dr. Theodore Yeshion. Students were treated to lunch and got a tour of the continually renovating I-HACK building, where they ran into alumnae from the VMA class of 2022 in I-HACK Maker Lab where they were creating prototypes. #Prep #GlobalPath #TechPath ⚙🌎

Junior Achievement kicked off yesterday! 130 students stayed after school to learn from Michael Parsons ’08 of LPL Financial and We Rock the Spectrum Kids Gym. This year’s program will be the Junior Achievement Company Program, which teaches students practical skills required to conceptualize, capitalize, and manage their own business venture. Junior Achievement is the world’s largest organization teaching youth about financial literacy, work readiness and entrepreneurship. They help give young people the knowledge and skills they need to own their economic success, plan for their future, and make smart academic and economic choices. #Prep #JuniorAchievement

Cathedral Prep Athletics Roundup for Thursday, February 8: • Girls swimming & diving picked up the season sweep over McDowell with their 113-72 victory. Maria Costa and Ellie Natemeier were quadruple winners. Jaslene Cage and Kendal Johnston each took three events, while Josie Dufala won a pair. 🏊‍♀️ • Boys swimming & diving also picked up a sweep of the Trojans, 95-88. Jack Raimy was a triple winner. Evan Calvert and Colin Troutman each won two events. Ted Terrizzi won the diving competition. 🏊‍♂️ • Girls basketball picked up a sweep over Fort LeBoeuf. Varsity defeated the Bison, 72-34, behind 24 points from Addie Biel. Jayden McBride had 13, while McKenna Valone and Lena Walz each had 12. The Ramblers clinched the Region with their win, which was the 19th straight for the Villa/Prep girls basketball program. JVs completed the sweep with a 50-19 win. Mady Brzezinski had 20 to lead the way. Jasmine Woodard finished with 10 points, while Grace Orlando added nine. 🏀 • Varsity hockey defeated Baldwin, 4-1. Logan Taylor, Rylan Sorge, Ethan Cunningham, and Nick Pugne scored for the Ramblers. Tanner Ball made 26 saves in net. 🏒 • Wrestling fell to Pennridge, 48-13, in the first round of the PIAA team tournament. Andrew Gammon (133) won by fall. The Ramblers hit eleven three-pointers in the game, with six coming from Lena Walz. She led all scorers with 26 points. Jayden McBride had 10 assists, setting a program single game record. JVs picked up a 27-21 victory. 🏀 • Girls swimming & diving picked up the season sweep over Meadville with their 114-63 victory. Maria Costa was a quadruple winner, while Josie Dufala took home three events. Chloe Borrero and Jaslene Cage each won a pair. Congratulations to Lauren Raimy ’24. She has committed to run cross country and track & field at Division I Fordham University on scholarship. Lauren has been part of four D-10 cross country championships, as well as a state title in 2022 and a state runner-up this past season.
