Corporal Rico Coletta of the PA State Police came to speak to MedPath students as part of their “Lunch & Learn” series yesterday. He spoke on the different drug classifications, their effect on the human body, and presented case studies. Students were able to connect what they have learned in Biology and Anatomy & Physiology to real-world situations that state troopers and first responders often find themselves in. #Prep #MedPath ⚕

Cathedral Prep Athletics Roundup for Tuesday, January 23: • Boys basketball split their doubleheader against McDowell. Overcoming a 13-point second half deficit, varsity rallied to defeat the Trojans, 64-60. Nando Mirarchi had 23 points to lead the Ramblers. Amaree Pickens had 16, while Michael Thompson finished with 13. The Ramblers also received lockdown defensive efforts from Ahmari Horton, RJ Roberts and Joey Spano. JVs dropped their matchup, 63-39. 🏀 • Varsity hockey picked up a 3-0 shutout over Central Catholic. Mathius Sprickman, Caleb Dacus, and Ethan Cunningham scored for the Ramblers. Tanner Ball had 31 saves to earn the shutout in net. 🏒

Cathedral Prep Athletics Roundup for Monday, January 22: • Girls basketball picked up a sweep over General McLane. Varsity jumped out to a 45-11 lead at halftime and went on to defeat the Lancers, 56-26. Addie Biel led the way with 20 points. Jayden McBride had 15, while McKenna Valone had 12 points on four three-pointers. JVs earned a decisive 42-12 win. Mady Brzezinski had 16 points to lead the Ramblers, while Grace Orlando chipped in nine. 🏀 • Girls swimming & diving rolled to a 122-63 win over McDowell. Maria Costa, Jaslene Cage and Ellie Natemeier were quadruple winners. Costa set the school and pool records in the IM with a time of 2:05.69, breaking her own previous school mark by nearly a second and a half. She broke the pool record that was set three years ago by Megan Maholic. Kendal Johnston was a triple winner, while Josie Dufala won a pair of events. 🏊‍♀️ • Boys swimming & diving also picked up a victory over the Trojans, 103-80. Cathedral Prep Weekend Athletics Roundup: • Boys basketball split their doubleheader against Harbor Creek. Varsity defeated the Huskies, 73-52. What a night for Spencer Kanne. He had a school-record ten three-pointers and a career-high 33 points. Amaree Pickens had 19 points, while the team hit 17 threes. JVs dropped their matchup, 47-40. Joe Jones, Jr. and Marco Pfister each had 12 points. 🏀 • Varsity hockey fell to the Canton-Akron Jets. 2-1. Mathius Sprickman had the lone goal for the Ramblers. 🏒

Varsity jumped out to a 35-4 lead at the end of the first half and went on to beat the Huskies, 56-16. Addie Biel led the Ramblers with 24 points. Jayden McBride had 11, while Lena Walz chipped in 10. Mady Brzezinski scored 20 points in the 45-32 JV victory. 🏀 • Girls swimming and diving picked up a victory over Meadville, 114-59. Jaslene Cage was a quadruple winner. Ellie Brugger and Ellie Natemeier each won three events. Chloe Borrero, Maria Costa and Kendal Johnston were double winners. Angeline Terrizzi took the diving competition. 🏊‍♀️ • Boys swimming and diving also defeated Meadville, 137-31. Jack Raimy and Alex Junkin took three events apiece. Evan Calvert, Brady Palmer, Owen Carson, Drew Brown and Matt Hinman all won a pair of events. Ted Terrizzi won diving. 🏊‍♂️ • Indoor track competed in their second NEOITC meet at Spire Institute. The 4x800 relay of Reagan Johnston, Anne-Catherine Brown, Fina Bannister and Lauren Raimy took first and qualified for states. Raimy took first in the 1600, while Brown and Allison Bender followed to round out the top three. Johnston took second in the 800. The 4x400 relay of Raimy, Brown, Regina Torrance and Bannister took third. 👟 • Boys freshmen basketball fell to Hickory, 48-43. 🏀

Cathedral Prep Athletics Roundup for Wednesday, January 17: • Bowling fell to McDowell, 26-2. Ava Hensler had the high game of 192 and high series with a 523. 🎳

In just over TWO WEEKS, the Cathedral Prep Theatre Program will present their second production of the year, "Peter and the Starcatcher!” Performances will begin on Thursday, February 1, and conclude on Sunday, February 4. Cathedral Prep Athletics Roundup for Tuesday, January 16: • Boys basketball swept Meadville. In a back-and-forth game, varsity pulled out a victory over the Bulldogs, 63-57. Nando Mirarchi led a balanced scoring attack with 16 points. Amaree Pickens had 13, while Spencer Kanne had 12. Derek Galla finished with nine. JVs picked up their first victory of the season, 59-56. 🏀

Cathedral Prep Holiday Weekend Roundup: • Girls swimming and diving won the North East Invitational. The Ramblers went 1-2 in the medley relay. The team of Maria Costa, Jaslene Cage, Ellie Natemeier and Josie Dufala took first, while the team of Chloe Borrero, Ellie Brugger, Lindsay Armanini and Grace McCormick followed. Coster won the IM. Brugger took second, while Brianne Ryan finished fourth. Cage took second in the 50 free, while Dufala took third and Kendal Johnston took fourth. Natemeier took second in the 100 fly and 500 free. Johnston took second in the 100 free. The 200 free relay of Costa, Johnston, Dufala and Cage took first. Costa won the 100 backstroke, while Borrero took second. Cage won the 100 breaststroke. Brugger finished second. The 400 free relay of Johnston, Brugger, Borrero and Natemeier took first. Maria Costa was the MVP swimmer of the meet! 🏊‍♀️ • Varsity hockey took part in the Meadville Tournament. The Ramblers began the weekend with a 2-0 win over McDowell. Ryan Sorge and Ethan Cunningham scored, while Tanner Ball earned the shutout in net. They would go on to beat Peters Township, 2-0, in their second game. Joey Walter scored both goals, while Ball earned another shutout. In their third game, Prep defeated Findlay (OH), 4-1, to advance to the semifinals. Walter, Logan Taylor, Tucker Kinnear and Caleb Dacus scored. Ball earned another win in net. In the semifinals, the Ramblers defeated the host Bulldogs, 4-1. Braydan McGarry, Vinny Scalise, Chris Bruschi and Mathius Sprickman all scored. Ball made 28 saves to get the win in goal. They would fall in the championship to Peters Township, 1-0. 🏒 • Boys basketball was in action over the weekend. Varsity rallied to beat General McLane, 60-50, after trailing by as many as 12. Spencer Kanne had 15 to lead the way, while Amaree Pickens finished with 13. JVs dropped a pair of games, falling to the Lancers, 52-49, and Mercyhurst Prep, 63-53. 🏀 • Wrestling fell to Reynolds, 47-15. Gabe Dorman (145) scored a pin for the Ramblers, while Brandon Byrd (152), Max Spaulding (215) and Will English (114) all had decisions. 🤼‍♂️

Addie Biel led a balanced scoring attack with 17 points. Jayden McBride finished with 16 points. Ava Lucarotti added 13, while Lena Walz finished with 12. JVs bounced back with a 41-18 victory. Johnayha Brunson (107), Keagan Oler (127), Gabe Dorman (152), Bo Martucci (160), Jaden Crockett (172), Corey Kowalski (189) and Alex Hagerty (285) all had pins for the Ramblers. Trevor Bruno (145) won by technical fall. 🤼‍♂️ • Bowling won in a come-from-behind victory over Erie High, 18-10. Ashley Carlson, Piper Holland, and Olivia Hutchinson all marked in the tenth causing a six-point swing. Ava Hensler had the high game of 170 and high series of 442. 🎳

Andrew Gammon (132), Gabe Dorman (144), Brandon Byrd (150), Bo Martucci (157) and Jaden Crockett (165) all took second in their respective classes. Amir Johnson (120), Keagan Oler (126), Corey Kowalski (190) and Max Spaulding (215) all took third, while Omar Arrington (285) took fourth. Will English (113) took fifth. This is the second time Ball and Cunningham were named All-Stars. 🏒 • Varsity boys basketball hosted the 40th annual Burger King Classic at the Joann Mullen Gymnasium. In their opener, the Ramblers fell to Neumann Goretti, 76-64. Nando Mirarchi had 18 points and 9 rebounds. Michael Thompson had 16 points and 10 boards. Joey Spano and Spencer Kanne each scored 11. In the consolation game, the Ramblers lost their matchup against Niagara Fall (NY), 76-60. Thompson went for 17 and nine boards to lead the way.
