Cathedral Prep Athletics Roundup for Monday, April 22: • Softball got a two-out base hit in the eighth inning from Emalie Thomas to pick up a 3-2 victory over Meadville in a varsity-only matchup. The Ramblers scored twice in the sixth inning to tie the game. Madison Simmerman pitched all eight innings, striking out nine while yielding no earned runs. Camryn Chimera and Emily Dudenhoeffer also drove in runs. 🥎 • Boys tennis took a 3-2 decision at Boardman. Gavin Ferretti won in singles. Cameron Grieshaber/James Casella and Drew Brown/Ty Hulick won in doubles. 🎾 • Baseball defeated Erie High, 5-1, in a jv-only matchup. JP Poranski went 5 2/3 innings for the win, striking out seven. He also hit a triple. AJ Sirianni went 2-3 with an RBI and two stolen bases. ⚾ • Boys lacrosse fell to Butler, 17-7. Nate Klan had three goals and an assist. Charlie McBrier and Rylan Sorge each had a pair of goals. Tanner Ball made 29 saves. 🥍

The Cathedral Prep Theatre Program closes their season with their final production of the year, "Grease: School Edition!” It will be a 7:00 p.m. showtimes on Thursday and Saturday, and 2:00 p.m. on Sunday in the H. David Bowes Auditorium. Tickets are $10 for adults, $7 for senior citizens, and $5 for students. Cathedral Prep Weekend Athletics Roundup: • Baseball won a pair of varsity-only matchups. On Friday, the Ramblers defeated Meadville, 5-1. Jason Fultz continued his hot week, hitting another homerun while going six strong innings on the mound. Fultz had two hits, four RBI, and struck out 14 while giving up just one hit. Andrew Costello also had a pair of hits. On Saturday, they earned an 11-0 shutout win over Erie High at UPMC Park. Justice Laird threw four innings of two-hit ball and struck out six. He also added a pair of hits and an RBI. Andrew Costello had two hits and two RBI, while Sam Ciukaj struck out three in his one inning of relief. ⚾ • Boys tennis split their matches over the weekend. On Friday, they picked up a huge 5-0 win over Mt. Lebanon. Jonah Ng and Gavin Ferretti each won in straight sets in singles. Doubles wins went to James Casella/Cameron Grieshaber, Michael Ferraro/Ty Hulick and Drew Brown/JJ Johnson. They lost a close 3-2 battle against Upper St. Clair on Saturday. Ng and Ferretti earned straight set wins in singles. 🎾 • Track & field competed in a pair of invitationals this weekend. On Friday, the Ramblers took part in the Butler Invitational. Lauren Raimy took third in the 1600m and currently sits in the top 15 in Pennsylvania with her time. Anne-Catherine Brown and Allison Bender placed fifth and 8th, respectively, in the 3200m. Brown’s time places her in the top ten in PA, while Bender is placed in the top 25. Fina Bannister placed eighth in the 800m. On Saturday, they took part in the City of Hermitage Invitational. For the girls, Sarah Teed took third in the 3200m. Raimy and Reagan Johnston finished seventh and eighth, respectively, in the 400m. For the boys, James Burkett took eighth in the 1600m. The 4x800m relay of Declan Toohey, Nick Kupniewski, Will English, and Nick Lata took fourth. Hunter Sullivan took eighth in the 100m. Ashton Mountain took sixth in the high jump. 👟 • Boys lacrosse picked up a big Region victory over Hickory, 9-6. Nate Klan had five goals and an assist. Brady Little scored a pair, while Alex Little and Rylan Sorge also scored. Ian Brown made 13 saves in goal. 🥍 • Girls lacrosse fell to Riverside (OH), 15-4. Genevieve Izbicki scored a pair of goals. Students in the Architecture & Engineering Path engaged in a lunch and learn this week with students and professors from Duquesne University’s School of Science and Engineering. Dr. Steven Wei, associate dean, and Ms. Maddy Gormley, enrollment coordinator, were joined by Prep alumni Andrew Stark ’19, who is currently a grad student studying biomedical engineering at Duquesne, and his brother Philip Stark ’21, who is studying biomedical engineering undergrad. Students learned about the engineering programs Duquesne offers from Dr. Wei, and the Stark brothers shared a bit about their experiences in the biomedical engineering program and what college life was like. Emily Dudenhoeffer also went deep and had two hits. Paige Simmerman and Cam Chimera each had a pair of hits, while Mackenzie Moore drove in two runs. JVs earned a 13-0 shutout victory. Sophia Primavere went 3-4 with three RBI while also yielding just one hit and striking out 10 in the circle. Our AFJROTC unit was inspected by Headquarters AFJROTC this week and received the highest rating that is awarded, “Exceeds Standards.” This indicates that we are lucky to have one of the top JROTC programs in the world. Our Blackbird cadets did a great job and we’re proud of them! Cadets Christopher Reitz ’25 and June Crofoot ’27 were also presented the Top Performer Award for their superior performance based on a cadet’s performance in leadership and job performance in preparation for the unit’s assessment and in primary duty. Jason Fultz hit two homeruns, including a grand slam, and drove in six. Andrew Costello also went deep and scored four runs. Nick Jackson went 3-3 with two RBI. Joe Flanagan went 2-2 with three runs driven in. Mathius Sprickman struck out five on the hill. JVs picked up a 9-2 win. Jackson Herr went 2-2 with a pair of RBI. Matt Boam earned the victory with three innings of work. ⚾ • Girls lacrosse scored twice in the final 31 seconds and once in overtime to earn their first win, 9-8, over Fairview. Andrew Costello went 2-3, while KJ Williams drove in a pair. Carson Phillips got the win on the mound, striking out seven over five innings, while yielding no runs. JVs earned a 6-3 win. Matthew Oblich went 2-3 with a homerun and three RBI. Nik Malec got the victory, striking out four over four innings. ⚾ • Track & field swept Erie High. The girls defeated the Royals, 120-28. Lauren Raimy, Anne-Catherine Brown, and Kayla Bogdanski were triple winners. Regina Torrance, Jessica Beveridge, and Danaya Allen each won a pair of events. The boys won, 87-62.
