Yesterday, a group students attended the Youth Civic Engagement Symposium at Gannon University. There, they heard from various speakers from our local executive, legislative and judicial branches of government. They toured the Erie Federal Courthouse and Erie County Courthouse, as well as City Hall, with the hopes that they would better understand how government works and choose to become more civically involved in our community. #Prep


Mrs. Oligeri’s Financial Planning classes have been hard at work during these first two weeks of the year. Today, they worked on practicing their interview skills with some different exercises. #Prep #FinancialPlanning 💲

Earlier today, we gathered with our littler brothers and sisters from Mother Teresa Academy for our annual All Schools Mass at the Hagerty Family Events Center. Students, faculty, staff, alumni and friends enjoyed a liturgy prepared by the Campus Ministry department. Chaplain Fr. Jason Feigh celebrated the mass and was joined by Fr. Mike DeMartinis at the altar. Like every year, the tradition of the All Schools Mass continues to be a wonderful way for the entire school community to come together to celebrate the start of a new school year. Cathedral Prep Athletics Roundup for Tuesday, September 20:
• Girls tennis bested Mercyhurst, 4-1, in their Region bout. Annie Prichard and Sophia Glance won in singles. The tandems of Margaret Prichard/Finleigh Handzel and Lilli Beuchert/Sofia Falvo swept doubles. 🎾
• Boys soccer swept Bradford with a pair of shutouts. Varsity bested the Owls, 9-0. Dylan Danch had a hat trick, while Max Johnson and Kendall Rodriguez each had a pair of goals. Reece Johnson had a goal and six assists. Jacob Haugh also found the mesh. Ethan Baker got the shutout in goal. JVs picked up a 5-0 victory. Cam Dunbar had a pair of goals. Max Johnson, Logan Sauers and Drew Donikowski all scored. Jake Bamberger and Max Johnson combined for the shutout in goal. ⚽
• Girls split their doubleheader against Meadville. Varsity was swept by the Bulldogs, 3-0. JVs picked up a 2-1 win. 🏐


Yesterday, Mr. Check's Graphic Design class used LEGO to demonstrate the Data Processing method and the Seven Elements of Design. Students were given various sets of differing design, and they had to assign different tasks to simulate a collaborative design process. Using the LEGO boxes and sets, students were introduced to basic design concepts, such as color, line and space; as well as the collaborative process that LEGO utilizes in their products. #Prep #GraphicDesign #Teamwork

After discussing and defining academic integrity, Mrs. Drabant’s World History 2 class broke into small groups to participate in a “Plagiarism Escape Room” game. Students solved puzzles that challenged them to distinguish between good and poor examples of paraphrasing and recognizing different kinds of plagiarism. #Prep #WorldHistory 📄


Cathedral Prep Athletics Roundup for Monday, September 19:
• Girls varsity soccer won a thriller, 2-1, over Fairview. Olivia Dixon scored the tiebreaking goal with 21 seconds left. Mackenzie Prather also scored for the Ramblers. ⚽
• Girls tennis continued to roll with a 4-1 victory over Nichols (NY). Anna Poranski and Sophia Glance won in singles. The tandems of Margaret Prichard/Finleigh Handzel and Sofia Falvo/Lilli Beuchert swept the doubles. 🎾
• Girls golf finished fourth in their Region mega match. Lindsay Armanini led the Ramblers with a 44. AnnaMarie Zinram shot a 46, while Vanessa Melle shot a 54. ⛳
• With the region title clinched, boys golf finished 2nd in the final mega match of the year at Blueberry Hill with a team score of 328. Due to inclement weather, players only played 9 holes. The scores were doubled to get an 18-hole score. Ryan Eastbourn led the team with an 80. ⛳


Congratulations to Will McBrier ’23 and Aj O’Neil ’23. They took part in the J/22 North American Championships last week at the Tawas Bay Yacht Club in Michigan. They were part of a crew, led by skipper Dave McBrier, that placed 8th against some of North America's best sailors in the fleet. Congrats to all! #Prep ⛵

Cathedral Prep Weekend Athletics Roundup:
• Football finished 2-1 against Solon (OH) over the weekend. Varsity got the weekend started with a 49-14 victory over the Comets. Dajoure Hollingsworth finished with seven carries for 105 yards and two touchdowns. Suhtaun Lewis added two touchdowns on the ground. Luke Costello threw a pair of touchdown, with Camariyon Bridges and RJ Roberts being on the receiving end. Cole Constable added a pair of field goals, which brought his career total to 19, a new Prep record. JVs lost a tough battle, 23-20. Freshmen football picked up a 28-14 victory. Mohammad Al-Hchaimi scored a pair of touchdowns and went four for four on extra points. Natavion Tenon and Owen Haffey also had touchdowns. 🏈
• Boys golf picked up a pair of huge victories. First, the Ramblers clinched the Region title with a 20-stroke victory at Oak Tree. Breckin Taylor was a medalist with a 69. Ryan Eastbourn shot a 78, while Matt Costa shot a 79. Trey Thompson had an 80, while Connor Laird shot an 81. This marked the 18th consecutive Region crown for the Ramblers. Then, on Sunday, they claimed the 2022 MIdwest Prep Classic title at the Country Club of Meadville by seven strokes over Walsh Jesuit. Taylor was the individual medalist with a two-day total of even par (144). A total of 16 teams participated. ⛳
• Girls tennis went on the road and won at Western Reserve Academy, 4-1. Annie Prichard and Sophia Glance won in singles. The tandems of Margaret Prichard/Finleigh Handzel and Sofia Falvo/Lilli Beuchert won in doubles. 🎾
• Girls water polo went 1-3 at the Screaming Eagle tournament. They defeated Mechanicsburg, 11-5. They fell to Cumberland Valley (8-7), Wilson (16-6) and Muhlenberg (12-5). Emily Consiglio led the way this weekend, totaling 11 goals. McKenzie DiPlacido added 5 goals. The Ramblers are back on the road next Friday in the Beast of the East. 🤽♀️
• Boys water polo also took part in the Screaming Eagle, finishing 3-1. Victories came versus Mechanicsburg (15-10), Cumberland Valley (9-8) and Muhlenberg (13-12). They fell to Wilson, 16-6. Aidan Levis finished the productive weekend with 10 goals. Mitchell Bradford scored 8 times. Callum Snider-Mills had 6 goals, while Anthony Frisina finished with 5. They also head back to the other side of the state next Friday for Beast of the East. 🤽♂️
• Boys soccer had a big doubleheader against Canisius (NY). Varsity picked up a 6-0 shutout over the Crusaders. Dylan Danch scored twice. Vincent Padalino, Reece Johnson, Kendall Rodriguez and Noah Handzel also scored. Ethan Baker and Tyler Chermack shared the shutout. JVs played to a 1-1 tie. Max Johnson had the lone goal.⚽
• Girls golf took part in the McDowell Invitational this weekend, finishing 7th the two day event. AnnaMarie Zinram led the ramblers with a two-day score of 165. Lindsay Armanini finished with a two-day score of 174. ⛳
