Cathedral Prep Athletics Roundup for Wednesday, October 19: • Varsity girls soccer picked up a big Region girls win to close out their for the Ramblers as they closed out their regular season with a 3-2 victory over General McLane. Goals came from Olivia Dixon, Moira Thunell and Alexa Tojaga. ⚽

Mrs. Drabant’s World History II classes are studying Big Era 6. They just completed their section on Luxury Trade and the demand for spices in Europe. Earlier this week, they used whole cloves to create orange pomander balls. The cloves smell surprisingly strong, and do not appear particularly appetizing, but ground they add the spice to our pumpkin spice! #Prep #WorldHistory 🍊

Congratulations to Jacob Sambuchino ‘23. He has verbally committed to continue his basketball career in college at Case Western Reserve University. A 3-year varsity player, Sambuchino was the team's leading scorer as a junior. “I chose Case Western Reserve because I knew that the school and the program were the perfect fit for me academically and athletically. Cathedral Prep Athletics Roundup for Tuesday, October 18: • Congratulations to Breckin Taylor. He finished fifth in the PIAA AAA Boys Individual Golf Championship. He shot two rounds of 73 at Penn State to finish +2. ⛳ • AnnaMarie Zinram participated in the PIAA AA Girls Individual Golf Championship and placed 22nd. ⛳ • Varsity boys soccer clinched the Region title with an 8-0 win over Meadville. Dylan Danch had a pair of goals. Noah Handzel, Max Johnson, Kwame Amin Somuah, Chris Morphy, Luke Trocki and Michael McDonald all found the net. Ethan Baker got the shutout in goal. ⚽ • Girls tennis swept Grove City, 5-0, in the AA semifinals. Anna Poranski, Anne Marie Prichard and Sophia Glance all won in singles. The tandems of Finleigh Handzel/Margaret Princhard and Sophia Falvo/Lilli Beuchert swept doubles. 🎾 • Varsity hockey beat Mt. Lebanon, 2-1, in a nail-bite. Brayden Sprickman scored both goals for the Ramblers. Tanner Ball stopped 25 shots in net for the win. 🏒

Cathedral Prep Athletics Roundup for Monday, October 17: • Girls soccer took on Fort LeBoeuf in a doubleheader at Dollinger Field. Varsity played the Bison to a 3-3 tie. Olivia Dixon scored a pair of goals, while Moira Thunell also scored. JVs also played to a tie, 2-2. ⚽ • Breckin Taylor took part in the 1st round of the PIAA Individual State Golf Championship at the Penn State Blue & White Courses. He finished with a 1-over 73 which left him tied for 11th. ⛳ • AnnaMarie Zinram also took part in the 1st round of the PIAA Individual State Golf Championships. She finished tied for 20th after the first day of play. ⛳

Campus Ministry and the Cross Country team sponsored a donation drive during Homecoming Week for GECAC and the Sisters of Life. Classes were instructed to bring in different items for the collection including diapers, formula, blankets, socks, etc. This is just one of the many service projects that will be held on campus throughout the school year. #Prep #Service #Community 🧦🍼

AFJROTC cadets took time this weekend to collect items and raise awareness for the homeless at the annual Ruck for Life March. They were required to bring nonperishable items and march five miles at the event. #Prep #AFJROTC #Service

Cathedral Prep Weekend Athletics Roundup: • Football swept Butler over the weekend. Varsity hit the road and picked up a big Region win over the Golden Tornado, 40-14. Dajoure Hollingsworth had 19 carries for 200 yards and three touchdowns. Luke Costello threw three touchdowns. Camariyon Bridges was on the receiving end of one, while DaMario Crawford had the other two. Crawford led the way with five catches for 70 yards. JVs picked up a 40-0 shutout victory on Saturday morning. Davin Friedman threw four touchdown passes. Two of those touchdowns went to Griffin Potts. Corey Allen and James Casella also had touchdown receptions. Joe Himes had a pick-six, while Taijoun Williams added a scoring run. 🏈 • Boys water polo took part in the Erie Challenge II at the Hallman Aquatics Center. The Ramblers finished 0-3 on the weekend with losses to Wilson (13-4), LaSalle (15-14 OT) and North Penn (9-2). Mitch Bradford led the way with nine goals on the weekend. Callum Snider-Mills finished with four, while Aidan Levis and Anthony Frisina finished with three apiece. Colin Troutman also found the mesh. Hewson Morphy finished with 28 saves over the three games. 🤽‍♂️ • Girls Water Polo also took part in the Erie Challenge II, finishing 0-2. The Ramblers fell to Wilson (12-2) and North Penn (13-2). Emily Consiglio had all four goals. Jillian Heinrich totaled 12 saves. 🤽‍♀️

Students in Mr. Markley's Chemistry classes started to dive into their first labs of the school year on Friday. They performed flame tests in order to identify metal ions. #Prep #Chemistry

Today, we welcomed guest speaker Chris Herren to campus. The subject of ESPN’s 30 for 30 Unguarded, he was a standout high school basketball player in Fall River, MA. He would go on to play at the collegiate level for Boston College and Fresno State before being drafted by Denver and played professionally for the Nuggets, Boston Celtics and overseas. Throughout his collegiate and professional career, he dealt with substance abuse that ultimately destroyed his life as he knew it then. Since effectively moving his way through rehab in an inspiring story of redemption and finding personal fulfillment, he has dedicated his efforts to speaking to people all around the country about the disease of addiction and substance abuse to peer pressure and bullying. We want to thank Chris for stopping by to speak to our students today, as well as send a special thank you to the Constable Family for making this presentation possible. #Prep 🎙

Cathedral Prep Athletics Roundup for Wednesday, October 12: • Boys soccer swept McDowell at Gus Anderson Field. Varsity picked up a 2-1 victory to sweep the season series over the Trojans. Reece Johnson and Dylan Danch scored for the Ramblers. JVs started the night off right with a 1-0 win. Pau Barea Solves had the goal, while Michael McDonald earned the shutout. ⚽ • Girls soccer took on Nichols (NY) in a doubleheader. Varsity fell to the Vikings, 7-1. Kayley McCall scored the lone goal for the Ramblers. JVs picked up a 2-0 win with goals from Lydia Repko and Maddie McElhaney. ⚽ • LATE TUESDAY SCORES: Girls cross country defeated McDowell, 15-48. The first five runners to cross the finish line were Ramblers: Sarah Clark (1), Rue Burkett (2), Anne Catherine Brown (3), Allison Bender (4) and Lauren Raimy (5) paced the team. With their victory, the Ramblers clinched a Region title! 👟 Varsity hockey picked up a huge league win over Pine-Richland, 5-1. Brayden Sprickman scored a pair of goals. Joey Walter, Logan Taylor and Caleb Dacus also lit the lamp. Tanner Ball stopped 35 shots in net. 🏒 Varsity girls soccer picked up a Region win over Harbor Creek, 7-1. Kayley McCall and Olivia Dixon each had a hat trick. Rory Noonan also scored for the Ramblers. ⚽ Girls volleyball took on Warren in a doubleheader. Varsity fell to the Dragons, 3-0. Cecelia Campbell finished with 15 assists, while Jenna Wagner added five kills. Hailey Slike and Nikole McLallen finished with nine and six digs, respectively. JVs fell in straight sets, 2-0. 🏐 Boys cross country fell to McDowell, 42-19. 👟

On October 1, Gannon University honored three Cathedral Prep alumni with a Distinguished Alumni Award. These awards are presented to Gannon and Villa Maria College alumni in recognition of achievements and contributions to their profession, service to their community and loyalty to their alma mater. He has since gone through many chemo treatments, a 12-13-hour surgery to remove his primary tumor, two stem cell transplants with his dose chemo, and now he is going into his sixth round of chemo with immunotherapy. He is a happy, energetic kiddo, who is excited about going to kindergarten. Ryan loves making YouTube videos with his older brothers, Logan and Ethan. He loves playing outside and digging in the dirt. He is a sweetheart and loves to try and make people laugh. When going on walks, Ryan will always stop to smell the flowers and pick some for everyone. Ryan will still need to undergo radiation and will have scans following his fifth round of chemo/immunotherapy.” #KickinItForCancer ⚽

Cathedral Prep Athletics Roundup for Monday, October 10: • Congratulations to Anna Poranski ‘24. She claimed the District 10 AA Singles title 6-4, 6-1, over Grove City’s Macy Matson. With her victory, she is now headed to Hershey for the state tournament. She has now won back-to-back tiles, and her victory made it the fifth year in a row that a Victor/Rambler took the girls singles tournament. Congratulations, Anna! 🎾🏆 • Boys soccer swept Erie High. Varsity defeated the Royals, 2-1, in overtime. Dylan Danch had the game winner on a nice cross from Jake Haugh. Noah Handzel added the other goal on an assist from Danch. JVs picked up a 3-0 shutout. Pau Barea Solves scored a pair of goals, while Michael McDonald also scored. Arayan Noticewala earned the shutout. ⚽

Cathedral Prep Weekend Athletics Roundup: • Varsity football picked up a huge win on Homecoming Weekend, besting Benedictine (OH), 55-7. Dajoure Hollingsworth finished the day with five touchdowns (four rushing and one receiving) and 147 yards on the ground. Wakeem Page had a rushing touchdown and a blocked punt returned for a score. Carter Barnes also had a rushing touchdown. JVs also defeated the Bengals, 32-28. 🏈 • Girls cross country took part in the Manhattan College Cross Country Invitational. Varsity won their race. Anne-Catherine Brown led the way with a 3rd place finish. Sarah Clark finished 8th. Allison Bender took 11th, while Lauren Raimy took 17th and Rue Burkett took 19th. Sarah Teed finished 29th and Helen-Ann McCormick took 31st. JV placed 2nd in their racee. Grace Barrett was 6th overall. Fina Bannister finished 8th, Caitlin Dugan was 12th, Colby Lester was 19th and Clare DiGiacomo placed 27th. The Ramblers can wrap up a Region crown Tuesday versus McDowell. 👟 • Boys cross country took part in the Manahattan College Cross Country Invitational and Harbor Creek’s Dirty Dawg Invitational. At the Manhattan Invite, Luke Brown was the champion of his race by 15 seconds. The Ramblers placed 6th in the Dirty Dawg Invite. James Burkett was an individual medalist and the top finisher for the Ramblers with his 8th place finish. Noah Lata, Ashton Sharma, Jeremai Pruzenski, Hank Partridge and Nick Kupniewski rounded out the lineup. 👟 • The District 10 girls singles tennis tournament to decide who plays in today’s final took place over the weekend. Sophia Glance and Anne Marie Prichard picked up victories in the first round, while Anna Poranski had a bye. All three would pick up victories in the second round and quarterfinals. In the semifinals, Glance fell to Grove City’s Macy Matson. Poranski took on Prichard and picked up a straight set victory. She will look to defend her title against Matson at 2:00 p.m. at Westwood. 🎾

Cathedral Prep Athletics Roundup for Monday, October 3: • Girls volleyball swept Northwestern. Varsity shutout the Wildcats, 3-0. Cecelia Campbell had 27 assists and eight digs. Nikole McLallen had 12 kills and seven digs. Hailey Sliker had 10 digs. Kaylin Laird finished with 11 kills, while Olivia Hutchinson added seven kills. JVs won 2-0. 🏐 • Girls varsity soccer fell in their Region bout against General McLane, 5-3. Olivia Dixon had a hat trick for the Ramblers. ⚽

Congratulations to Owen Callaghan ‘23. He has verbally committed to continue his lacrosse career on scholarship at Division II Walsh University.
