• Boys basketball finished 2-1 against Austintown Fitch in a tripleheader. Varsity picked up a 37-17 win over the Falcons in a low scoring matchup. Jake Sambuchino had 14 points and 11 rebounds. Mohamed Rahama tossed in eight points. JVs picked up a 49-32 win. Michael Thompson had 18 to lead the way, while Max Wallace chipped in 11. Freshmen fell 35-19. KyZir Rowan finished with 11. 🏀
Cathedral Prep Athletics Roundup for Thursday, December 22:
• Boys basketball finished 1-1 yesterday. Varsity captured the Blue Division of the KSA Tournament in Orlando with a 57-47 win over Pingree (MA). Amaree Pickens had 14 points and was named Co-MVP of the tourney, along with Jake Sambuchino who had 11. Tavion Spencer added 12 points for a Rambler team that finished 3-0 in Florida. Freshmen basketball fell to McDowell, 49-40. Owen Haffey and KyZir Rowan each had 14 to pace the Ramblers. 🏀
• Girls basketball swept Fairview. Varsity outscored Fairview 31-5 in the second half to win 52-18. Jayden McBride had 12 points to lead the way. Lena Walz added 11. McKenna Valone and Ava Lucarotti finished with nine and eight, respectively. Prep is 6-0 on the season and will play in the national bracket of the KSA Holiday Tournament in Orlando next week. JVs defeated Fairview, 49-12. Natalie Spano led the way with 17 points. Leah Major scored nine, while Katherine McCormick chipped in eight. Mari Sanders had seven. 🏀
• Girls swimming & diving picked up a big win over Mercyhurst Prep, 123-32. Ellie Natemeier won four events for the Ramblers. Maria Costa won three times, while Chloe Borrero and Brianne Ryan each won twice. 🏊♀️
• Boys swimming & diving also defeated Mercyhurst Prep, 108-29. Owen Carson took home four events. Evan Calvert won three times, while Mitchell Bradford, Matt Hinman, Jack Raimy, and Alex Junkin all won twice. 🏊♂️
Mrs. Drabant’s World History II and Ms. Tewari's French II classes participated in a scavenger hunt today exploring Christmas traditions around the world. They read the descriptions, matched them up to their recording sheet and used QR codes to reveal the country and more information about it. #Prep #HolidayFun

• Boys varsity basketball continued their hot streak in Orlando with a 69-39 victory over Southern (KY) in the KSA Tournament. Amaree Pickens led the way with 20 points. Semontae Lofton had 11, while Tavion Spencer chipped in 10. 🏀
• Wrestling picked up a 38-27 victory over Meadville. Sam Staab (133), Brandon Byrd (152) and Owen Shetler (189) earned pins for the Ramblers. Jaden Crockett (172) scored a tech fall, while Amir Johnson (114), Keagan Oler (121) and Andrew Gammon (127) all won by decision. 🤼♂️
• TONIGHT: It's a big night at the Hagerty Family Events Center. The swim teams host Mercyhurst Prep at 6:00 p.m. At the same time, the Ramblers entertain Fairview in girls basketball. Congratulations to Prep senior Luke Brown '23. He has verbally committed to run next season at George Mason University in cross country and track & field on scholarship. Brown was one of the top runners in cross country in District 10 the past two seasons. He has also been a state medalist, a District champion and individual champion at major invitationals. • Boys basketball went 1-1 on the day. Varsity picked up a 58-27 victory over Coral Shores (FL) in their first game of the KSA Tournament in Orlando. The Ramblers jumped out to an 11-0 lead as Jake Sambuchino led the way with 12 points and 10 rebounds. Amaree Pickens and Mohamed Rahama scored eight points each. Freshmen basketball fell to Mercyhurst Prep, 40-39. KyZir Rowan led the way with 19. 🏀
• Varsity hockey picked up a 4-2 win over Central Catholic. Liam Waid, Alex Brown, Connor Eubank and Logan Taylor all found the back of the net. Tanner Ball made 25 saves in goal. 🏒
Last Saturday, we held our Winter Dance Showcase in the H. David Bowes Auditorium! Guests enjoyed an evening full of dancing and music. The holiday spirit and cheer was felt throughout the evening! #Prep #Dance 🎶🩰

Last Friday, Show Choir visited St. Joseph Apartments to help serve and clean up at their annual Christmas party. Those that were able to join in the project also performed part of their winter concert music and shared Christmas carols at the conclusion of their party. • Girls basketball swept Erie High. Varsity rolled to a 63-28 win over the Royals. Jayden McBride led the way with 23 points, while Lena Walz finished with 13. McKenna Valone and Tori Mayes each chipped in eight. JVs picked up a 48-13 victory. Katherine McCormick led the Ramblers with 21 points. Natalie Spano scored eight in the win. 🏀

• Wrestling hosted the Rambler Duals at the Joann Mullen Gymnasium. The Ramblers finished 3-1 on the weekend. Their first win came over St. Joe’s (NY), 60-15. Xavier Domkowski (139), Brandon Byrd (145), Bo Martucci (152), Jaden Crockett (160), Owen Shetler (172), Isaiah Harrick (189) and Max Spaulding (215) all scored pins for Prep. They would then take their second match, besting Edgewood (OH), 58-3. Andrew Gammon (127), Sam Staab (133), Domkowski, Martucci, Harrick and Amir Johnson (114) all had pins. Keagan Oler (121) and Aiden Carter (107) earned falls, while Crockett scored a decision. They would then defeated South Fayette, 42-24. Staab, Byrd, Crockett, Shetler (189), Harrick (215) and Johnson all had pins. The Ramblers would fall in the championship to St. Ed’s (OH), 34-33. Shetler, Johnson, Staab and Gammon scored pins. Byrd earned a decision. 🤼♂️
• Boys swimming took third overall at the Viking Invitational at Cleveland State University. The 200 medley relay of Jack Raimy, Matt Hinman, Aidan Levis, Mitchell Bradford finished second. Bradford finished fourth in the 200 IM. Levis took second in the 100 fly. Bradford won the 100 back, while Raimy and Levis took second and fifth, respectively. The 400 free relay placed third behind Raimy, Owen Carson, Levis and Bradford. 🏊♂️
• Girls swimming also took part in the Viking Invitational, finishing sixth. Haley Palmer placed fifth in the 50 free and the 100 free. In the 100 back, Maria Costa took fourth. The 200 medley relay finished fifth with Costa, Kyan Snider-Mills, Ellie Natemeier and Palmer. 🏊♀️
• Boys freshmen basketball fell to Boardman (OH), 42-31. Ashton Mountain led the Ramblers with 11. 🏀
• Varsity hockey picked up a 3-0 shutout over Gilmour Academy (OH). 🏒

• Girls swimming & diving picked up a Region win over Erie High, 93-33. Brianne Ryan was a triple winner. Double winners included Chloe Borrero, Ellie Brugger, Ellie Natemeier and Grace McCormick. Angeline Terrizzi won diving. 🏊♀️
• Boys swimming & diving also picked up a Region victory over Erie High. Evan Calvert won three events. Double winners included Colin Troutman, Callum Snider-Mills, Alex Junkin and Aidan Levis. Ted Terrizzi won the diving competition. 🏊♂️

• Bowling remains undefeated with their 24-4 win over Mercyhurst at Rolling Meadow Lanes. Elena Kacprowicz led the way with a high game of 225. Kacprowicz, Emalie Thomas, Ava Hensler, Tamara Bell and Maja Wasielewski each earned four-point sweeps for the Ramblers. McDowell is up next. 🎳
• Boys freshmen basketball picked up a 56-23 victory over Slippery Rock. Owen Haffey led the way with 20 for the Ramblers. 🏀
