Last weekend, the Cathedral Prep Theatre Program presented our winter play, “Harry Potter and the Cursed Child,” in the H. David Bowes Auditorium. Cathedral Prep is the first school to perform this play in the tri-state area. The play involved over 40 students from Prep in both onstage and backstage roles. Starring in this play were brothers Riley Hanlon '26, as Albus Potter, and Aidan Hanlon '27, as Scorpius Malfoy. They were the sons of Harry Potter, played by John Paul Benedict Mizner '25, and Draco Malfoy, played by Liam Gutowski '27. Other featured parts included Hermione Grainger-Weasley, played by Theresa Ferraro '27, Ron Weasley, played by Noah Wagner '25, and Ginny Potter, played by Lauren Proper '26. The play was directed by Fr. Mike DeMartinis, with set/prop design by Mrs. Gretchen Petrarca and set construction by Mr. Paul Snyder '77. Complete with iconic moving staircases, floating candles, time travel, talking picture frames, enchanted bookcases, flying brooms, exploding potions, and fire-shooting wands, the audience was awed by the play's storyline which begins 18 years after the final J.K Rowling book ends. Animated projections and costume direction by Mrs. Wendi Proper and Mrs. Tanya Czarnecki helped bring the world of Harry Potter to life before the audiences' very eyes. 🎭
